I’ve said it boldly, I’ve said it through tears,
sometimes I’ve even said it knowing that I really didn’t mean it.
I said it anyway.
I say it because it’s a spiritual practice…a spiritual practice that never fails.
It’s an act of faith,
an act of defiance,
an act of audacity,
an act of hope.
After all, as the writer of Hebrews 11:1 says,
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen.”
I say it in faith, always in faith, whether I feel it or not.
It doesn’t matter what I feel, it does matter what I say.
To say this is to speak light to the darkness,
not because we trust our light, but because we trust God’s.
“What came into existence was Life,
and the Life was Light to live by.
The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;
the darkness couldn’t put it out.” John 1:4-5 MSG
We trust the power of God’s Light to be greater than the darkness of sin,
greater than the darkness of hate,
greater than the darkness of division,
greater than the darkness of mistake,
greater than the darkness of complacency and apathy,
greater than the darkness of uncertainty.
We trust God to be greater.
I can witness to the truth that this makes a difference…
the saying of these words out loud.
In the midst of struggle, uncertainty, change, loss, failure, and need,
it always makes a difference.
It makes a difference, because it makes us different.
It takes our eyes, attention, energy and worry off of the issue
weighing heavy upon us and puts our body, mind, and soul’s gaze
upon the only One who is truly worthy of that attention.
Fairway District Family, I invite you to share in this practice and make it your own.
4 words spoken 3 times.
4 words proclaiming that there is more going on than what we see or know,
that God is working out God’s good in us, through us, in and through our churches,
and in and through our communities and our world.
“I trust You, Jesus. I trust You, Jesus. I trust You, Jesus.”
It’s always the best way to begin, and really…the only way to continue.
Trusting with you and thankful for you,
