Time to Nominate Lay Ministries of the Year
The NC Conference Board of Laity will celebrate the many lay ministries happening throughout our conference as we did at the 2014 Annual Conference. Videos will be created to share with everyone at the 2015 Annual Conference in Wilmington. We encourage each church to submit only one active ministry from 2014 that emphasizes making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This link will describe the Guidelines and provide a form to submit your nomination.
The deadline to submit your form and pictures to your District Lay Leader, Caroline Jackson, is January 31.
Questions or more information? Contact Caroline at 919.552.3705.
2014 Rainbow Covenant Forms Due by Jan. 31
Completing the Rainbow Covenant form ensures that your church will be recognized for its second mile missional giving in 2014. Rainbow Covenant churches must pay 100% of all 2014 apportionments and give a contribution in each of the five lanes of mission. Go to nccumc.org/publications and use the “2015” link to access Rainbow Covenant information. The reporting form, found on pages 13 and 14, should be printed, completed in full (use the correct Advance numbers for each of the five lanes of mission), and mailed by Jan. 31 to: The Rev. Daniel Collins 1595 North Moore Road Robbins NC 27325

Fairway District United Methodist Women Mission Study @ St. Luke UMC
The Fairway District UMW Mission Study: The Church and People with Disabilities: Awareness, Accessibility, and Advocacy will be held Saturday, January 31, from 9:30am to 1:30pm at St. Luke UMC in Sanford. (2916 Wicker Street, Sanford, NC 27330). Does your congregational make-up reflect recent studies indicating that one in five of us has a disability? Are people with visible and hidden disabilities active in leadership roles and fully integrated into the life of your church?
The Church and People with Disabilities: Awareness, Accessibility, and Advocacy intends to build awareness in the church regarding issues around disability, to call the church to provide full accessibility to services and opportunities, and to promote advocacy for justice for people with disabilities. This study will encourage you to identify ways that your church can do more to make your church more inclusive of those with any of the many types of disabilities.
This study may be especially helpful for members of Boards of Trustees who are looking at accessibility needs of church facilities and Children’s & Youth’s program directors and Sunday School coordinators / teachers who are working with special needs populations. All are invited to participate. You do not have to be a member of UMW to attend. Men are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Bring your own bag lunch. Drinks will be provided. Wear your own name tag if you have one, too! More information? Contact Rossie Lindsey RossieL41@gmail.com
Fairway District Youth Event – Friday, March 20 @ St. Luke UMC
The Fairway District Youth Committee invites all youth in the district to St. Luke UMC in Sanford on Friday, March 20 from 6:30-9:00 for an event we’re calling “Light the Night.” There will be three parts to the evening.
- An extremely active activity called “Glow Ball” (it’s glow-in-the-dark-dodge ball),
- A time of worship with our message being delivered by Rev. Brian Wellborn of “The Well,” a new ministry in Fayetteville, and
- An Imagine No Malaria presentation from Rev. Rachel Moser.
The cost is $10 per person, which will cover expenses. We also encourage youth groups in attendance to raise additional donations for Imagine No Malaria to help our Conference reach our $1 million goal. Checks should be made out to “Pinehurst UMC” with “Fairway Youth” on the memo. If your group would like to attend, or if you have any questions, please contact the District Youth Coordinator Zack Moser firstname.lastname@example.org by February 16 with an approximate number of youth who will attend from your church.

This is an eight-week, paid internship to develop and diversify the pool of young nonprofit professionals in North Carolina. The internship is available to a rising sophomore, junior, or senior student from NC who is enrolled full-time in a four-year college or university and who receives a federal Pell grant.
These internships offer a range of exposure and skill-building opportunities in areas such as research, community outreach, public policy, communications, fundraising and social media.
The El Refugio/The Refuge intern would work to research and create a web site that includes general information and details on helping organizations in Lee County, plus compile the information into a printed directory. Both these resources will be provided in Spanish and English.
