Whispering Woods Golf Club in Whispering Pines
All proceeds from this tournament will go to the 2015 Scholarship Fund. The entry fee is $65 which includes: green fee, cart, 2 mulligans and a buffet lunch. The top 3 teams will receive cash prizes and there will be merchandise prizes for the closest to the pin winners on each par 3. We would be happy to have sponsors to offset the costs of these prizes.
Last year we had 10 teams in our tournament and raised $600 for the Scholarship Fund. Our goal this year is to have at least 12 teams and to raise $1000 for the Scholarship Fund. We need your help to make this happen. Please lift this tournament up to the golfers in your group and encourage them to participate. Adopt a Public School and Transform a Community Congregations for Children (C4C)
is an initiative of our NC Annual Conference to systemically address childhood poverty by encouraging our local congregations to intentionally be in relationship with a local public school. In partnership, Dr. June Atkinson (NC Superintendent of Public Instruction) and Bishop Hope Morgan Ward have identified at least three ways our local UMCs might have a positive impact in addressing childhood poverty.

Food for Sierra Leone – Annual Conference 2015 Mission Project
In the past several years, we have asked for donations of birthing kits or school kits to be taken to Annual Conference and distributed thereafter. This year, we are asking that Churches help prepare food buckets before Annual Conference. These 5 gallon buckets will be packed onto a container and the container will be blessed by Bishop Hope Morgan Ward and Bishop John Yambasu, who will be visiting our Annual Conference in June from the Sierra Leone Annual Conference. These food buckets will be a welcomed gift for the people of Sierra Leone who are fighting the effects of the Ebola virus. Because of the quarantines which were necessary to contain the virus, many people have become desperately in need of basic food supplies. Particularly impacted are children who have become orphaned due to the Ebola virus outbreak—and countless others who have been ostracized in their communities because of the disease.
It is well within our capabilities to load an entire container of these food buckets and send them as a gift in honor of Bishop Yambasu—who has helped to lead his country’s fight against the problems brought by the Ebola virus. Bishop Yambasu and his colleagues in the Sierra Leone Annual Conference will distribute the food on the ground as they determine specific needs.
You can download a packing list and flyer here. Thank you in advance for your help in this project. Should you have questions, contact the Rev. Dr. Bill Haddock at firstname.lastname@example.org or 910.262.3831.
Change The World Weekend Saturday May 16th 10am until 12noon
Sunrise UMC, 5420 Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs, NC
Come join with children, youth, and adults in the NC Conference to hear Jason Brown’s testimony. This professional football player heard God’s call on his life, and came to Louisburg, NC to begin the First Fruits Farm. He and his wife, Tay Brown, learned to farm from watching YouTube videos! The harvested produce goes to the Society of St. Andrew, Interfaith Food Shuttle, and the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina. They’ve already given over 110,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and cucumbers to the hungry in our state. Read more here – http://www.wisdomforlife.org/first-fruits-farm.html
His story was highlighted on CBS News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOL2zTgweMs&feature=youtu.be
We’ll hear from Jason, ask questions, and then join together to package rice and beans for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Offerings will be accepted towards the First Fruits Farm. If you would like to attend, please contact Amie Stewart at 919-200-3217 or email@example.com. All are welcome, but space is limited so please reply soon.
Asking Children to Imagine Mission and Service
In recognition of the 75 years of UMCOR, the Conference is requesting children in the conference to create and submit artwork showing mission work done throughout the conference or what they think it means to serve others. Children are invited to share a picture they draw, paint, color, or any other medium they choose so that every person present at the 2015 Annual Conference (around 2000 persons) can receive a hand-drawn picture from a child to take home. Pastors, Sunday School teachers, and others who minister with children are asked to collect artwork on any type of paper, 8 ½” x 11″ size, and send to NC Conference – UMC, c/o Rev. Carol Goehring, 700 Waterfield Ridge Place, Garner, NC 27529 by May 15.
