Thank you for the overwhelming response so far to the appeal for Food Buckets for the people of Sierra Leone who have been affected by the Ebola virus crisis. This crisis has made many people food insecure—particularly those who have been stigmatized by having the virus themselves or in their families. These food buckets will be distributed to those persons by the staff of the Sierra Leone Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Although this collection of Food Buckets will become a gift to one of our visiting preachers for Annual Conference, Bishop John Yambasu, all food buckets and food items need to go to the Mission Warehouse at 3MC (676 Community Drive, Goldsboro). We CANNOT receive food buckets or any other kind of UMCOR kit at Annual Conference this year because of space constraints.
The Missions Warehouse will be open from Monday to Friday, May 11-15, 2015 from 9 am to 5 pm. A work day has been scheduled for May 16 to finalize the shipment at the warehouse.
In the Fairway District, Saint Luke UMC (2916 Wicker Street, Sanford) and Fuquay-Varina UMC (100 South Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina) have agreed to serve as drop-off locations for food buckets.
You can download a packing list and flyer here. Thank you in advance for your help in this project. Should you have questions, contact the Rev. Dr. Bill Haddock at email@example.com or 910.262.3831.
And an additional invitation from Bill Haddock…
This is just a notification about our next general work day at the Missions Warehouse at 3MC in Goldsboro. May 16 falls during Change the World weekend. If you don’t already have ministries in your community, consider coming down to help us pack a container of food buckets to go to Sierra Leone. In addition to filling buckets, we’ll be palletizing, and packing the container to the brim. Also, I expect that many church folks will be bringing their food and buckets to the warehouse.

Christian role models volunteering in our local public schools help to model Christ-centered interactions with children. Encouraging parental/adult involvement in our local public schools is an integral part of the “Congregations for Children” initiative. As parents/adults support our students by volunteering in the schools, student success increases. As congregations are sensitive to the needs of children and modify evening programming schedules, children are ensured adequate rest and the church/home/school partnership is strengthened.
Discover an overview about becoming a Congregation for Children on the Fairway District web site http://fairwaydistrictnc.org/congregations-for-children-c4c/c4c-resources/ or by contacting Elaine Lilliston at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Change the World Weekend – Saturday May 16th – 10:00am until 12:00noon – Sunrise UMC, 5420 Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs
Come join with children, youth, and adults in the NC Conference to hear Jason Brown’s testimony. This professional football player heard God’s call on his life, and came to Louisburg, NC to begin the First Fruits Farm. He and his wife, Tay Brown, learned to farm from watching YouTube videos! The harvested produce goes to the Society of St. Andrew, Interfaith Food Shuttle, and the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina. They’ve already given over 110,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and cucumbers to the hungry in our state. Read more here – http://www.wisdomforlife.org/first-fruits-farm.html
His story was highlighted on CBS News https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOL2zTgweMs&feature=youtu.be If you would like to attend, please contact Amie Stewart at 919-200-3217 or email@example.com.
