“John Wesley Visited His Local Community School”
A tale is told of John Wesley in Georgia visiting the local community school. On a regular basis, John Wesley entered the school to share Bible stories and to pray and to be supportive of the community. He began to notice some children did not attend school as they had no shoes. While there was not a formal “dress code” requiring shoes, children made fun of the ones without. Thus, Mr. Wesley ascended the schoolhouse steps, took off his shoes and entered the building barefoot. When the school children saw the respected parson without his shoes, children with or without shoes knew they were welcomed in the school setting and the bullying stopped!
We can and will make a difference by “taking off our shoes” and entering, as Wesley did, the local public schools in our communities. Plan now to contact your local school administrators or principals to LISTEN to the needs and PRAYERFULLY seek ways your local congregation may be in partnership to make a difference in our communities throughout the Fairway District.
Collection of School Supplies for the District El Camino School Project in Siler City
In February, each district UMC and/or UMW unit was invited to provide the money for at least seven (7) filled book bags at $25.00 each for the District El Camino School Project in Siler City. The time is drawing near to prepare for another school year and more funds are still needed. The 596 book bags have been ordered and delivered. Now the supplies must be purchased and, even though they are being purchased at wholesale prices, there is a need for additional funds.
Please make this a matter of prayer and send what your church/UMW unit can to:
Alberta Settle, UMW Treasurer – 166 Juniper Creek Blvd. – Pinehurst, NC 28374
Thank you for assisting a student to have a successful start to the school year by having the necessary tools for learning.
