Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry (DBOM)
Dear Friends in Christ,
Grace and peace to you today in the name of Jesus Christ.
I hope that you will invite the annual Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries’ Special Sunday offering on Sunday, August 23. Disciple Bible Outreach helps us live out Christ’s call to visit those in prison and promotes strong Disciple Bible Study programs in local churches.
Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry (DBOM)is now in its 16th year of ministry among us. First founded by our conference and the WNCC in 1999, DBOM has trained hundreds of volunteers for ministry in our prisons, jails and youth developments centers. Thousands of inmates have benefited from DBOM’s ministry. In 2010, this model of ministry expanded to other states and now has new ministries operational in Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas. God continues to do a great work in our midst through Disciple Bible Outreach!
In the past, DBOM has provided each church with offering envelopes; however, given the rising costs of printing and postage, it seems much better stewardship to ask you to take a special offering on August 23 (or a date of your choosing) and mail a check directly to DBOM:
Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries, PO Box 370, Jamestown, NC 27282
Please make sure to add your contribution to your conference remittance report…Advance Special: S00103. There will be a bulletin insert available for download on nccumc.org on Monday, August 17, and a video will be posted online on Tuesday, August 18, which can be used in promotion.
I give thanks for your commitment to outreach ministry.
With gratitude for the life in Christ we share,
Bishop Hope Morgan Ward
Invitation from OR/CHAT Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance
You are invited to the Orange/Chatham Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (OR/CHAT) inauguration service with installation of officers on Saturday August 15, 3:00pm, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church located at 530 Lystra Road, Chapel Hill, NC. The church is located off 15-501 between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill.
OR/CHAT is an intentionally interracial and interdenominational ministerial alliance serving Orange and Chatham counties. We consider ourselves to be “Christ centered servants for the community”. We meet monthly to discuss issues of interest in our communities and are actively seeking ways for our congregations to unite in a common witness to the love of Christ in our midst. We believe in accentuating our commonalities while wrestling with the very real issues of racial tension. We will also be collecting school supplies to be distributed to area students. We look forward to seeing you there.
Invitation for Local Church Treasurer Training
Local church treasurer and finance committee training will be held on Saturday, November 7th, from 10:00 to 3:30 at the United Methodist Building in Garner. Local church finance basics will be covered as well as updates from recent legislative changes. Local church treasurers, finance committee members and pastors are encouraged to attend. Seats are limited so registration is required. There will be a $10 registration fee charged to help offset the cost of training materials and lunch. If you are unable to attend in person, visit the Training Materials website for access to all the resources presented at this annual event.
