Jackson Heights, formerly the DMB Band, is one of the most influential bands in Christian Country music. They were ahead of their time yet paved the way for many of the popular artists today. You will not want to miss this opportunity. All proceeds of the love offering will benefit “Imagine No Malaria.”
“I Hate Snow days!”
As we move from the heat of summer toward crisp fall days, we know that “snow days” will also be part of our morning weather forecasts. While most of us anticipate an extra day of rest, billowy white serenity gently falling and the possibility of creating snow critters, children in food insecure homes just may “hate snow days” because of school meals that are missed. “Nourishing Noggins” (Apex area), “Backpack Buddies” and similar efforts of local church families to provide weekend food assistance with dignity for our children and youth make a HUGE difference throughout our district. THANK YOU for caring about the children of our community while providing basic needs in creatively appropriate ways.
“Congregations for Children” is an adaptable outreach into communities served by United Methodist churches to ensure our students and educators have the resources needed for success. Please contact Elaine Lilliston email@example.com to share success stories and/or to inquire about “C4C” and how to become involved in supporting local public schools in your community.
An Evening with Hind Khoury, General Secretary for Kairos Palestine
Thursday, September 24 – 7:00pm – Apex UMC
On Thursday, September 24th, 7:00pm, Hind Khoury, the General Secretary for KAIROS Palestine, will be at Apex UMC to share about the reality of life in Palestine, the urgency of the situation there and how people of faith might engage as advocates. This will be an excellent opportunity for those who have traveled as pilgrims to Israel and Palestine, for General Conference delegates, for lovers of the Biblical land and for peacemakers. This event is a part of the World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel (WWPPI) as designated by the World Council of Churches, and is being co-sponsored by the North Carolina Council of Churches.
Questions about the event? Contact Laura Fine Ledford firstname.lastname@example.org. More information about Ms. Khoury and Kairos Palestine is also available at https://nccumc.org/news/2015/09/an-evening-with-hind-khoury-general-secretary-for-kairos-palestine/. “I felt that God had dropped me off at college and said He would pick me back up in 4-6 years.” – This is a quote from a young adult. Not just any young adult, but one who grew up in the church, knew the Bible, knew the songs, and knew the motions. However, college proved to be too much of an inconvenience for someone with a devout faith in God. Instead it was a place to explore the many facets of life and leave behind the faith he or she possessed in high school.
The recent PEW Research Demographic Study, which has been covered extensively by national media outlets, reports young adults (18-30) are not just ditching church – but ditching faith altogether.
Many churches from Burlington to Burgaw and from Southern Pines to Southern Shores are looking around their sanctuaries and noticing a huge gap. The age between high school youth and young parents. They are not there. What’s a church to do?
This is where Spark comes in, a new initiative by the NCCUMC Young Adult Ministry Team to ignite conversations about what can be done in local communities to love, reach, and minister to a seemingly absent demographic in many congregations.
