Dear Friends in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
We celebrate with you the ministry of the laity in The United Methodist Church and invite you to a great event particularly for laity on Sunday afternoon, November 15, at 3:00pm, at St. Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary, NC. Doors will open at 2:00pm with a book signing starting at 2:15pm.
Bob Goff, noted gospel-proclaimer, amazing storyteller and best-selling author, will be our special guest speaker. Bob describes himself as the Founder and Chief balloon inflator of Restore International. Others describe him as “one of the most amazing people I have ever met!” We are thrilled that Bob will spend the second weekend in November in our Annual Conference, first with our youth at Pilgrimage 2015 on Friday and Saturday before speaking at this grand event for laity on Sunday afternoon. Visit bobgoff.com for sneak previews of what we will experience together on November 15!
Clergy gatherings have been convened in August so that clergy might spend time together in worship, connecting, learning and equipping for ministry. This event is convened in that same spirit – for laity so that together, we might worship, connect, learn and go forth ready to love and give!

The Fairway District will host Dr. Marty Cauley for discussion about his recent book Dying to Go on Vacation on November 19 (10-11:30am) at Lemon Springs UMC, 7225 Lemon Springs Road, Sanford, NC. All clergy and interested laity are invited to join.
From the book: “What are you waiting for? Is there something you are putting off until tomorrow? What if suddenly all of your tomorrows were taken away? We are all dying, but we live like we have all the time in the world. Dying to go On Vacation is the inspirational retelling of my journey of faith after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. It is a humorous, and sometimes heart breaking, story of positively dealing with why bad things happen to good people and what to do when the world you were building seems to fall apart.”

Apartment Furnishing in Less Than an Hour!
A local public school counselor in our Fairway District contacted the partnering UMC pastor and asked if household supplies might be donated for a homeless mother and child of the school. The immediate response was “ABSOLUTELY.” An email identifying the needs including two beds, small kitchen appliances, housewares and home furnishings was sent throughout the congregation. In less than an hour, church members had signed up to drop off needed supplies including an interior decorator who offered to help arrange the donated items. Mother and child were soon safely sleeping in their own apartment!
Are you supporting students (beyond your congregation) within your community? Do the public school administrators in your community know you? Is your local church serving the needs of your community in tangible life-giving ways?
“Congregations for Children (C4C),” an initiative of our NC Conference, seeks to provide an equipping network of resources as we share the journey with one another. Contact Fairway District C4C Coordinator Elaine Lilliston (919-567-9427 or
firstname.lastname@example.org) to share your amazing story and/or to inquire about how to be more responsive to the needs around your local UMC.
