Luke 18:1-8: Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
“For some time, he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Banging on the doors of God’s heart – not giving up,
shows that we know where the Power lies.
Persisting with an over and over and over again, and again effort
proclaims our belief in the One we trust to bring about hoped-for change.
Proclaims the truth that we are sinners poor and needy
who can’t wait for the every hour of needing God, but are on the shorter term plan of
“I need Thee now!”
The obstinate refusal to quit coming to God
with our hurt,
with our need,
with our brokenness,
with the injustice,
with our sin,
means that there is an equally obstinate faith in God’s ability
to heal,
to fill,
to mend,
to right,
to save.
Banging on the doors of God’s heart with our noisy persistent never-give-up-until-God-answers prayers, creates beautiful faith music in the heavens, and creates intentional faith living in us.
“Always pray” Jesus said, and don’t give up.
Almighty God doesn’t need or want to be let off the hook.
So, let us keep coming, keep banging, keep praying, keep trusting, keep expecting…
and then we will see what God will do.
Praying with you and thankful for you,
Dena
